An Eye Exam from an Optometrist on Our Optometry Team

A glaucoma screening as a part of an eye exam involves a series of evaluations and tests to confirm the presence of the condition and to what extent it has developed. It can be important to receive regular eye exams as you age because your chances of developing an eye disease increase. Early symptoms of glaucoma can be spotted by a trained optometrist when looking for them in an eye exam. If glaucoma is identified by an eye doctor on our optometry team, we can then begin treatment to help you manage the eye disease and hopefully prevent vision loss.

The eye exam focuses on a number of different areas of the eye. These might include measurements and observations of the inner eye pressure, the condition of the optic nerve, the current level and extent of vision, how thick the cornea is, and more.

Depending on the type of glaucoma you develop, you might not be able to notice any symptoms until you have already had permanent vision loss because of it. Early signs can, however, be detected by an eye exam. If we detect glaucoma, we can begin treatment in a timely manner and hopefully prevent any vision loss in the first place. This is one of the reasons why we recommend regular eye exams- we would not be able to help prevent vision loss without them.
